How to Recognize Asphalt Paving Scams

How to Recognize Asphalt Paving Scams Kalamazoo, MI

Does your asphalt driveway badly need repair? If so, your home could be targeted for asphalt paving scams. Most of these scammers go door-to-door promising deep discounts, but this is really just a way to pressure people into deals that aren't good for them.

If you suspect you're dealing with a scammer, file reports with your local police department and Better Business Bureau.

Deep Discounts

If the price sounds too good to be true—it is. Scammers offer deep discounts because they don't plan on being around to finish driveway repair. They also know that families that wouldn't otherwise be able to afford asphalt repair will jump at the opportunity.

These scammers might claim the discount comes from using crushed asphalt from a previous paving job. While they may work on your asphalt driveway for a day or so, they'll disappear before the job is done. Our paving contractors always make sure they have enough recycled asphalt for your entire driveway.

Out-of-State License Plates

Don't hire driveway pavers with out-of-state license plates. There's no reason why a legitimate contractor would take jobs out of state. Our asphalt contractors, on the other hand, have been serving the Kalamazoo area for over 30 years.

Just because a driveway contractor has a local number, doesn't mean they're from the area. It's too easy to get a disposable phone with a local number, which is why we recommend checking the license plate instead. The best asphalt companies spend decades in the same area building up trust and their reputations. We value our relationships with customers and are proud to have served the Kalamazoo area for over 30 years.

No Contact Information

A reputable company will have no problem giving you their contact information. Our driveway contractors want to build a relationship with you so you feel comfortable asking questions and scheduling a quote. Scammers, on the other hand, don't want you calling them when they skip town with your money.

It's always suspicious when a company representative doesn't want to hand you their business card. If a contractor isn't forthcoming about their phone number or address, keep looking. A reputable company should have a brick and mortar address, not just a post office box.

Demanding Cash Upfront

Legitimate asphalt companies accept cash, credit cards, debit cards, and checks. It's a major red flag when a door-to-door salesperson pressures you to pay cash up front. Scammers know that you'll eventually discover their game, which is why they insist on being paid cash. Otherwise, they run the risk of you canceling your check before they have the opportunity to cash it.

Our Kalamazoo driveway contractors work hard to earn your business and will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have. We look forward to hearing from you. To request your quote for driveway repair, call TM Asphalt Sealing at (269) 496-7281.
